Description

Finally, a button lock from WE Knives! Released on 23 May 2022, The Culex marks the knife company's first ever Button Lock model. Let's face it, we've all been waiting out in anticipation for WE to make one. Especially since their sister company Civivi has given us 3 fantastic button locks over the past year Chevalier, Conspirator & the Altus

And the WE Culex does not disappoint. WE have taken what has worked well and given us a masterpiece. Built with premium materials, the Culex features beautiful 6AL4V titanium scales with a CPM 20CV blade with a wicked design that includes the flipper tab, thumb studs and button lock mechanism. You can tell this was well thought out for all of us who enjoy our multiple deployment methods.

If you own and love any of the Civivi Button Lock range then the WE Culex is a must have to add to your collection.

Green stone washed beauty

What’s not to love about this knife, it’s a well made titanium scaled knife with a very sharp 20CV blade out of the box. The blade has just the right amount of tension holding it closed to make sure it doesn't accidentally flip open in your pocket. The button locking mechanism is also a work of simple Beauty. Feels like a tank of a knife without carrying a large weight. I chose the green version for something a bit different and love it!

Solid EDC

While WE definitely needs to lay off the stamped out clips, I'll let it slide for this one.
This doesn't feel like a knife you need to baby, it feels really solid and ready to work.
The finish on the handle hides scuffs whilst the bead blasted blade looks beautiful and resists marks.
The detent is very nice and firm and the blade pops without fail.
Always a 5 stars for the service from Adventure Carry :)

WE Culex - Blackout w/gold ano hardware

The Culex has many similarities to the Civivi Altus…However, they are a different beast.

After some colour deliberation I purchased the blackout version with the gold anodised titanium hardware. Although all the colours look stunning!

The packaging appears lux…Like a high end watch. All the typical goodies you expect come with this knife - Cloth, booklet, stickers and case. WE Knives are certainly establishing themselves as a big player in the market.

I must say, the aesthetics are spot on. The blade profile is not particularly aggressive(Which I like in an EDC) and the handle profile is simple but enough. The gold highlights are subtle, but perfect.

If you like the size and ergos of the Altus, you will love this knife. I find this size of knife perfect for EDC tasks. The button lock/thumb stud/flipper deployment offers ultimate fidget factor. It’s quite heavy for it’s size, but personally I like that.

The jimping isn’t too harsh and the the flipper tab, while small, requires little effort to deploy. The button lock mechanism has been finely tuned and is smooth and predictable.

The CPM 20CV blade is sharp AF straight out of the box.

Two small issues for me that take away from this being a 5 star review -

1. The clip isn’t recessed into the scales. It’s a pet hate of mine. I’m ok with the style and size of the clip. It can be moved to suit LH tip up carry, which is inclusive…But I still wish it was notched for RH carry. Recess your clips!

2. Thumb stud deployment - I’m still getting used to it, but it’s not as easy to thumbstud flick as the Altus. (This is possibly due to the scale profile on the Culex. The thumb stud only just sits proud of the scales, so it requires a little more technique while the Altus scales are scalloped out next to the stud) Once again - This could just be me and my fat thumbs…But it’s noticeable.

That’s it.
